KING OF THE SIXTIES. |

Few motorbikes have achieved the legendary status of the Bonnie. Throughout the 1960s the 650cc sportster twin from Triumph's factory at Meriden, Coventry, established a reputation for speedy performance with dashing style. The T120 Bonnie was not the quietest or smoothest of bikes, thanks to the engine vibration of all unbalanced parallel twins. But snappy acceleration, a top speed of 115mph and smart colour schemes kept sales high. By 1968 the earlier models' wayward handling had been tamed, and braking was greatly improved, thanks to a twin leading-shoe, front drum. Other refinements included a stronger crank, separately adjustable ignition points, better lubrication and the latest Amal Concentric carburettors. Versatile and responsive to tuning the T120 excelled in sports from US dirt tracks to European street bike racing. A factory Bonnie ridden by Malcolm Uphill was the first production bike to lap the TT course at over 100mph in 1969.
