HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLSTF. |
|
| CUSTOM CLASSIC. | |
| No one could accuse the Fat Boy of being subtle. Weighing in at about the same as four large men, it is a big machine-and when it first appeared, its factory-custom looks caused quite a stir. Much of the Fat Boy follows the familiar big Harley path, with the low-revving 1340cc Evolution (Evo) engine dominating the bikes low-slung looks. There's a wealth of old-style detailing such as the metal tear drop shaped toolbox fitted to Harleys since the 1930s; less traditional are the solid, cast alloy custom wheels front and rear. The Fat Boy freely mixes old and new. This is evident at the rear, where a casual glance might make you think there's no suspension, just the continuation of the frame to the rear axle that gave old-time Harleys the name 'hardtail'. The look is kept by the 'softail', a modern suspension system that looks old but rides new. These elements contribute to the custom character-it may look like a traditional Harley, but this is one civilized motorbike. | |
